TRPM2 is a member of the melastatin-related TRPM subfamily belonging to the transient receptor potential or TRP channel superfamily. TRPM2 can form a Ca2+-permeable cationic channel activated by intracellular ADP-ribose. The physiological functions of TRPM2 remain largely unknown except that activation of TRPM2 channel can initiate yet unidentified signalling cascades that lead to membrane disruption and eventually cell death.
