EMMPRIN (extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer) also called CD-147 is a 58 kDa protein with two immunoglobulin domains that was originally purified from the plasma membrane of the human LX-1 lung carcinoma cell line. EMMPRIN has been localized on the outer surface of tumor cells, where it interacts with fibroblasts to stimulate the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). EMMPRIN expression has been observed in normal oral mucosa epithelium, kidney tissue, neoplastic oral squamous cell carcinoma, lung carcinoma, urinary bladder cancer, in situ ductal breast carcinoma and in the peripheral granulocytes of rheumatoid arthritis patients. High level of EMMPRIN expression has been shown to correlate with both MMP expression and cancer invasive potentia.
Applications:
• ELISA
• Inhibition Assays
• Western Blotting- On SDS-PAGE commassie blue stained gel, the purified recombinant protein shows a band at 84 kDa.
