Description/Data:
Picture

Growth differentiation factors (GDF-1 to GDF-15) are members of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family, within the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) superfamily. GDF-5, -6, and -7 share 80-86% aa sequence identity with each other and define a subgroup within the BMP family. GDF-8 is most closely related to GDF-11 with 90% aa sequence identity. Similarly to the other members of this family, the GDFs are highly conserved across species (with the possible exception of GDF-15).
