HNF-3 beta, also known as FoxA2 is a 48-kDa member of the HNF-3/forkhead class of DNA binding proteins. It is part of the Sonic Hedgehog (Shh) signaling pathway.
CD4-Foxa2+ GFP-Bry+ populations isolated from activin-induced Embryonic Stem Cells differentiation cultures is able to generate cells that display characteristics of hepatocytes. This gene has been linked to sporatic cases of maturity-onset diabetes of the young. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified for this gene.
