Immunogen: Hybridoma resulting from the fusion of a mouse with B cells obtained from a mouse immunized with Prominin 2-transfected NS0 mouse myeloma cells (clone#: 244029).

Prominin 2 is a pentaspan membrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed in neuroepithelial cells, hematopoietic stem cells and epithelial cells of the adult kidney and digestive tract.

Images: Fluorescence microscopy analysis of expression of PROM2 (red signal), a K-Ras dependency signature gene, in K-Ras-dependent (H358 and YAPC) and KRas- independent (PA-TU-8988T and A549) cell lines. Green signal corresponds to Factin, as revealed by phalloidin staining. Scale bar = 15μM. Cancer Cell. 2009 June 2; 15(6): 489–500. doi: 10.1016/j.ccr.2009.03.022.

Prominin 2 expression is down-regulated in aggressive prostate cancer cell lines and transient transfection of PROML2 expression vectors has been shown to induce apoptosis in cultured prostate cancer cells, suggesting a tumor suppressive role for Prominin 2. Prominin 2 expression is likely to be involved in growth suppression in the prostate, and down-regulation of Prominin 2 may disrupt normal prostatic homeostasis and lead to uncontrolled prostatic growth.
