The biological activities of the neurotrophins are mediated by binding to the different members of the Trk family tyrosine kinase receptors. Three Trk family proteins, TrkA, TrkB and TrkC, exhibiting different ligand specificities, have been identified. At the protein sequence level, Trks are highly conserved between species and the proteins exhibit cross-species activity.
Image: TrkA receptor staining in rat DRG neurons. Tissues were stained using donkey anti-goat secondary antibodies conjugated to Rhodamine Red X (red). TrkA receptor labeling is confined to plasma membrane of DRG neurons.
