NbActiv1, the predecessor to our new NbActiv4, Neurobasal and B27 were developed in 1993 (PM:8377226).They are a serum-free medium optimized for hippocampal neuron survival after 4 days of growth. Other neuron types can also be cultured in NbActiv1, (PM:8600300). Glutamax even replaces the usual glutamine.
NbActiv1 should be stored at 4°C for up to 4 months. It should not be frozen. This medium is designed for use at 37°C in a 5% incubator. Neurons are subject to less oxidative stress if the oxygen is also regulated at 9%.
