Cells Survive to Thrive!
This small subpopulation of cells are suspected to be the drivers of tissue repair in vivo. This makes them key to stem cell based drug discovery and other regenerative medicine applications. Characteristics include: gene expression patterns associated with the down-regulation of genes involved in cell death and survival; high expression of homing/migration chemokines.
Image: Morphology of cells are shown in two prominent clusters together with more firmly attached cells of classical mesenchymal morphology. This is day seven following exposure to stress. Scale bar is 50 mm.
