SLAIN1 (SLAIN motifcontaining protein 1) is a 61 kDa (predicted) member of the SLAIN motif containing family of proteins. It is expressed in embryonic stem cells plus cells of the neural tube, and also appears in multiple adult tissues. Its function is unclear. Mouse SLAIN1 is 579 amino acids (aa) in length. It contains a coiledcoil region (aa 2156), a Prorich segment (aa 64160), and one Cterminal SLAIN (SerLeuAlaIleAsn) motif. There are two potential splice variants. One shows an alternate start site at Met262, while another shows a 50 aa insertion after Gln231. Over aa 262483, mouse SLAIN1 shares 96% and 92% aa identity with rat and human SLAIN1, respectively.
