Human Brain Pericytes

Primary Human Pericytes

While pericytes are often associated with stabilization and hemodynamic processes of blood vessels; they have many diverse functions. Pericyte functions include guiding sprouting tubes, eliciting endothelial survival function, even phagocytosis of cellular debris. Additionally, brain pericytes play a critical role in the formation and function of the blood brain barrier. Density of perictyes differs depending on the function of vessels and organs to which they are found. Pericytes are found in the highest density in vessels of neural tissues, such as the brain and the retinas.
