CD99 is a 32kDa glycoprotein, which is thought to be involved in cell adhesion processes. Expression of CD99 is a characteristic of cells from Ewing's sarcoma and primitive peripheral neuroectodermal tumours. However expression is also seen in certain normal cells such as pancreatic islet cells, cortical thymocytes, Sertoli cells and ovarian granulosa cells. Mature granulocytes express very little or no CD99.
