The CD62E antigen (97 to 115 kD), also known as E-selectin or endothelial leukocyte adhesion molecule-1 (ELAM-1), is expressed at sites of inflammation. CD62E antigen is thought to trigger the initial tethering and rolling of leukocytes on endothelial surfaces, a prerequisite for leukocyte extravasation from blood into tissues. CD62E antigen expression is reported to be upregulated on vascular endothelium at sites of inflammation in a variety of disease states where neutrophil infiltration is evident.
