Biogenic Amines are a large group of naturally occurring biologically active compounds, most of which act as neurotransmitters. The most dominant, norepinephrine, is involved in such physiologic functions as emotional reactions, memory, sleep, and arousal from sleep. Other biochemicals of the group include three catecholamines: histamine, serotonin, and dopamine. These substances are active in regulating blood pressure, elimination, body temperature, and many other centrally mediated body functions.

Calcium (Ca2+) Channels are important in shaping the action potential, and in neuronal excitability and plasticity. In addition, they regulate heart rate, insulin secretion, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume.

There are many different types of TRP Channels (TRPA, TRPV, TRPM, etc.). These channels are an important part of neurons and their function is important to understand for neuroscience.
